SIM express is a Mac application capable of editing the contact information (phonebooks, also known as memories) of a cellular/GSM/mobile phone, which has a built-in modem (or via well equipped data-card), and supports the standard AT command set. As a new feature the SIM express can now also send SMS messages.
Both serial cable and infrared connection are supported.
Example phone models that are known to work:
- Nokia 7110, 6210 and 8xxx series
- Benefon Twin/Twin+, Benefon Q, Benefon Track, Benefon Esc!
- Siemens 35-series
- Motorola Timeport P7839
- Ericsson models with data capabilities (or with the suitable infrared adapter)
Note! if your phone model is not listed here, try the demo with your phone or ask us.
Also if you have a phone without internal modem, and you are using a GSM PCMCIA card, try the demo version: some cards have the necessary capabilities.

Version 1.4.1 Release Notes
SMS messaging bug-fix: PDU mode messaging now available in preferences (enable to send messages with phone models that previously have had problems, like Ericsson and Siemens).
Version 1.4 Release Notes
Free update to SIM express 1.x - mainly a maintenance release. (New features are currently under development and will be added to the software in the future.)
There is a separate Carbon version for MacOS X and Classic version for MacOS 9.x or older.
Works with MacOS X, requires version 10.1 or better. Please use always the latest OS X version available from Apple. And also if you use USB serial port dongles, make sure you are using the latest drivers.
At the release time Apple Bluetooth device was not yet available for testing, but all the necessary BT connectivity profiles (serial port) shows up in the serial port listing, so it should work.
Fixed a bug in the serial port initialization - works now faster and more reliably.
SMS sending now does not stop if it encounters errors in message format, character set or message centre configurations - since in some phone models these values are fixed and message sending may still work.
Fixed some bugs in the phonebook handling (overflows).
Some smaller fixes made.

Memory editing
You can edit the different phonebooks stored in your phone, and exchange information with desktop applications.
There are two ways available in SIM express to do this: If you just need to quickly add names to the phone or change a number, use the Quick Edit feature. It opens the phones memory in online edit mode and changes are made instantly. The editing possibilities are naturally more limited compared to the other method: you can open the phones memory as a new file, which you can edit in more flexible manner, and in your own pace. You can save the file, open it for later use or print it, like any Macintosh file. And when you want, you can Save it back to phone, in either of the editable memories (SIM and device memory).
While Quick Editing the serial port used is reserved until the Quick Editing window is closed , and cannot be used by other applications (like Message Express or Remote Access); but Open From/Save To editing only uses the port when exchaning information with the phone.
You can also import information from any comma or tab separated text file, like the ones you can export from Microsoft Outlook Express or Microsoft Entourage. Naturally you can also export the phonebook as a text file, back to those applications, using export command.
And if you are using the Nokia Communicator 9110 and MacSuite, you can exchange information between MacSuite and SIM express using the MacSuite Import/Export.
SMS Sending
You can now also send SMS message with SIM express, using your phone, select the person you wish to send SMS in the phonebook window, click New SMS in the Tools window - type the message and hit send.
Message Centre numbers can be downloaded from the web directly (see Preferences menu > Message Centres window) - the preset list increases daily, if your number is not yet there, browse to: http://www.idexpress.fi/roswellman/messagecentreform.html and add it.
